Historically, millwrights built watermills and windmills, mostly of wood with a limited number of metal parts.[1] More generally in the English speaking world, early millwrights were specialist carpenters who erected machines used in agriculture, . Donald Muggeridge Early life. Donald Muggeridge was a Kentish man, and he obviously inherited his father William's enthusiasm for windmills. Donald feels that he was very fortunate to have his own life-long interest aroused at a time when there were still more than windmills at work in England, and indeed still places where several could be within sight working at the same time.

The earliest known windmill in Thurrock was at South Ockendon circa The reason for the proliferation of windmills was that each Lord of the Manor had his own windmill and the locals were expected to use it. There are three basic types of windmill. The earliest type is the post mill.   In the meantime, Vincent is kept busy working on windmills across Essex, Kent, Suffolk and Norfolk. As for his own windmill restoring it back to its former glory is a project for the very near future.
